County Passes Resolution Authorizing Seasonal Levels on Grand Lake

After considering property owner feedback and discussions with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, on May 29, the Presque Isle County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution authorizing circuit court proceedings to establish seasonal lake levels on Grand Lake.
The lake level order for Grand Lake currently outlines one year-round normal or legal lake level of 593.69 feet NAVD88. Adding seasonal levels would allow the County to conduct an annual drawdown of Grand Lake to a lower level in the fall that would be maintained until the spring. The currently established legal lake level would become the summer level.
Now that the resolution has been passed, the next step will be for the County to file a petition with the Presque Isle County Circuit Court requesting a hearing to establish seasonal lake levels. Although a date will not be "official" until the petition is filed and the Court enters an order setting the hearing date, the County anticipates the circuit court hearing will take place in August.
Property owners in the Grand Lake lake level special assessment district will receive a written notice of the Circuit Court Hearing after a petition has been filed and a hearing date has been set by the Court. The notice will include information on how property owners can access a recorded webinar regarding the proposed seasonal lake levels and the Circuit Court hearing.
